In response to the heightened food insecurity many people are facing as a result of the ongoing federal government shutdown and worker furloughs, United Way Worldwide has partnered with the 211 network to add a food assistance resource search function on 211.org
Families and individuals in need of food assistance can now search by zip code to identify resources available in their community here.
Locally, United Way of Greater Kansas City saw a 16% increase in call volume for food assistance from the September to October. The need is expected to remain high leading up to the holidays. Food assistance resources can also be found at 211KC.org and through Impact 100 partner, Harvesters—The Community Food Network at harvesters.org/gethelp.
