Every night in Kansas City, hundreds of individuals and families face the reality of not having a place to call home. From living in cars or shelters to navigating the uncertainty of temporary housing, the path out of homelessness is never simple.
United Way of Greater Kansas City proudly supports several Impact 100 partners that provide shelter, stability, and the resources needed to help individuals and families rebuild their lives. These organizations do more than provide a roof; they restore dignity, hope, and a sense of belonging.

Here are five Kansas City organizations making a lasting impact:
1. Community LINC
Community LINC helps families experiencing homelessness break the cycle of instability through housing and wraparound support. Their holistic approach combines transitional housing with financial education, employment coaching, and mental health counseling to help families achieve long-term independence. Each year, Community LINC helps hundreds of families find permanent housing and a pathway to self-sufficiency.
2. Sheffield Place
Sheffield Place serves mothers and children experiencing homelessness, providing safe housing and comprehensive therapy-based programs designed to address the root causes of instability. Through trauma-informed care, parenting classes, and workforce development, Sheffield Place empowers families to heal and build strong futures together.
3. Sisters In Christ
Every day, Impact 100 organization Sisters In Christ works to address gaps in the community support system, particularly for the formerly incarcerated and unhoused, by providing resources for mental health, substance abuse recovery, affordable housing, employment, and family stability in Kansas City. Sisters in Christ provides 12 to 18 months of transitional housing for formerly incarcerated women, women with substance use disorder, and homeless women.
4. Avenue of Life
Avenue of Life works to end poverty in Kansas City through wraparound support that keeps families together and housed. Their “one-stop shop” approach connects families to community partners that help with everything from employment to transportation to basic needs. Avenue of Life’s impact extends beyond housing — it creates pathways toward generational stability.
5. True Light Family Resource Center
Located in the heart of Kansas City, True Light Family Resource Center provides essential support for women and children experiencing homelessness or crisis. From shelter and food assistance to advocacy and empowerment programs, True Light offers a safe, welcoming space for individuals to access the resources they need to transition into stable housing and sustainable independence.
