Honor Dr. King on Monday, January 15
The Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service is Monday, January 15 and calls Americans to honor Dr. King and his legacy through service. Together, we step up to make our communities more equitable and create the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream. We have the power to bring communities together, help others stand together against hate, build bridges, and heal divides through service on this day and well into the future.
How will you honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy on MLK Day? Learn about Martin Luther King and his legacy. Explore and educate yourself about ways to address inequity, foster inclusion, and improve access. Elevate local community leaders by supporting local Black-owned businesses and organizations. Engage by volunteering – join a community cleanup, mentor a young person, or serve food at a community kitchen. Any act of service, big or small, can help the nation unite and break down barriers.

MLK Day | Coffee with Champions: Join us on Monday, 1/15 at 8:30AM to remember the life works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and explore the fascinating connection between “Baseball and Civil Rights” in a special MLK Day edition of Coffee with Champions hosted by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This event is free and open to the public. All attendees must RSVP.
2024 Hygiene Kit Donation Drive Kicks off at the Library for Annual MLK Day of Service: The Kansas City Public Library’s AmeriCorps VISTA Project is collecting donations of travel-sized personal care items for a hygiene kit drive as part of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service. From January 2-11, 2024, all 10 Kansas City Public Library locations will accept donated supplies in designated bins. More information and the list of items needed can be found here.
