The Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation was formed in 1994 to serve as the revitalization catalyst within the heart of Kansas City, Kan. with a mere $200. It soon developed a master plan around a four-square block area, bound by 11th Street on the East, 13th Street on the West, Parallel Parkway on the North, and Garfield Avenue on the South. Revitalization has included new single-family homes for low, moderate and middle-income buyers, a senior-living facility, community center, and transitional housing duplexes assisting the homeless. In addition, MCRC is uniquely designed to help the community meet everyday challenges with services including a food pantry, single family home ownership program, transitional housing program, strengths-based case management, crisis intervention, budget counseling, information and referrals, motivation and education, client advocacy, and senior outreach.
