Volunteer opportunities:
Great Jobs KC offers meaningful volunteer opportunities that can engage individuals across a range of touch points with our Scholars. Each spring, we invite community members to serve as application reviewers, supporting the selection process by reviewing student essays and recommendation materials. This opportunity typically occurs in March and April and requires approximately 20 hours of engagement. It is consistently well-received, with roughly 260 volunteers participating annually.
We also offer opportunities for deeper engagement throughout the year. Volunteers may support college orientation events by assisting with setup, registration, and on-site logistics as students and families prepare for the transition to higher education. Additional opportunities include career-readiness support, such as resume reviews, interview coaching, and serving as professional mentors to participants in job-training programs.
Individuals may also contribute as workshop presenters, sharing expertise on workplace readiness and essential life skills, or support technology access by assisting with the distribution and setup of laptops for Scholars enrolled in training programs. Collectively, these opportunities allow volunteers to play a direct role in strengthening participant readiness, confidence, and connection to career pathways.
