BPU Hardship Assistance Form
This program can only assist with certain, limited hardship criteria. Please read the following guidance. Note, this guidance is not binding and final decisions on program eligibility will be determined by program staff. You will be required to provide written documentation to support your hardship claim in order to receive assistance.

Change in Employment or Income Status:
- Nonpayment of child support
- Lapse in benefit payments (when not caused by the applicant)
- Unexpected disruptions in employment
- Workplace layoff (not caused by the applicant)
- Reduction in work hours not resulting from client request or actions
Only situations involving unforeseeable and documented loss of income and/or employment status
not caused by client actions will qualify.
Unforeseen Documented Expenses:
- Funeral expenses for a recently deceased household member
- Victim of a crime
- Home repairs that lead to increased utility bills
Expenses must be extraordinary, unforeseeable, and must directly impact the household’s ability to pay its utility bill.
Health Emergency:
- A recent hospitalization that has affected your ability to pay your bills
- Time off from work due to illness
Documentation of time off work and/or medical treatment must be provided for assistance.
Change in Family Composition or Marital Status:
- An additional dependent moves into the household
- A divorce/separation that leads to additional financial strain on the household
