United Way of Greater Kansas City stands with our community as we grapple with this Wednesday’s tragedy, following what should’ve been a day of joy and celebration for our entire region. As an organization, we are committed to mobilizing people and resources to make a difference whenever, and wherever help is needed.
In partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs, United Way of Greater Kansas City is establishing a special emergency fund to support our community in its efforts to heal and become more resilient in the wake of these horrific events.
Funds raised will first and foremost go to support the victims and their families. Secondly, we recognize this kind of violence is rampant throughout our region – often in lower-income communities far away from the spotlight of media attention. That is why funds raised will also support violence prevention and recovery organizations, including mental health support services.
Finally, United Way also recognizes the immense gratitude we owe to first responders who run toward danger to keep our community safe every day. That is why funds raised through this effort will also support our first responder community.
“We’ve all been affected by this moment—and if you’re compelled to act, I encourage you to turn your outrage into action. There will be many forces that will work to divide us in the weeks ahead, but as the Chiefs showed us on the field all season long – the best path forward is not to turn against each other but instead to work together–united. ,” said Chris Rosson, United Way of Greater Kansas City President and CEO. “100-percent of funds raised will go directly to these causes and organizations with no administrative fees whatsoever. The true strength of champions is revealed in how they respond in the face of adversity. The only question that remains is—how will we respond, Kansas City?”
