United Way of Greater Kansas City is a community mobilizer—responding in real-time when our community needs help the most. We recently launched the SNAP Into Action campaign in response to the delay of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments for more than 150,00 of our neighbors. While it appears funding may soon be partially restored, the ongoing government shutdown remains a concern for the approximately 30,000 federal workers in our community who have been furloughed or are continuing to work without pay.
In recent weeks, local food pantry shelves have been wiped out and funds for other local programs providing rent and utility assistance are quickly being depleted. As we approach the holidays, we know need isn’t going away and community support will still be required.
How you can make an impact now and into the holiday season:
- Join SNAP into Action by making a financial gift or signing up to volunteer at a packing event. 100% of donations made directly to this campaign will support immediate hunger relief efforts. Host a food drive at your company or organization by contacting marketing@uwgkc.org.
- Sign up to volunteer during Winter Seasons of Giving to make an impact with local United Way nonprofit partners.
- Donate winter warmth items to support our Holiday ImpactPalooza winter warmth kit packing volunteer event.
- Shop our Amazon Wishlist to help provide warming items for our neighbors in need. Items may also be dropped off in the donation bin outside the United Way of Greater Kansas City offices: 4801 Main Street, Suite 425 in Kansas City, Mo.
- Pledge support to United Way with an unrestricted year-end gift—helping us respond to real-time needs in our community.
