Debi Quiroz, Program Manager at HNTB Corporation, has spent nearly a decade supporting her company’s United Way campaign. This year, she proudly stepped in as Employee Campaign Manager to lead campaign efforts on her own.
“Giving back to the community that helped me so much is deeply important to me,” Debi shared. “When I plan and participate in events, I try to lead with that spirit—hoping to inspire others to get involved and experience the same sense of connection and purpose.”

With her company’s headquarters relocating and only two weeks to plan, Debi quickly reached out to past committee members, organized logistics, created new posters, redesigned the intranet site, and lined up vendors, resulting in incredible impact. One highlight from the season included the company’s silent auction, where departments create themed baskets for bidding.
“They went above and beyond, creating beautiful, thoughtful baskets that made the auction a success,” she said. “What we achieved together in such a short time is something to be proud of. The heart, the hustle, and the teamwork on display were inspiring.”
Partnering with United Way goes far beyond a workplace campaign—it’s a way to bring colleagues together around shared values and make real, lasting change in the community according to Debi.

“It’s a reminder that even in the midst of busy schedules, office moves, and shifting priorities, there’s always room to show up for others,” she said. “United Way gives us a platform to do just that—to rally our teams, support meaningful causes, and make a tangible impact in the lives of those who need it most.”
Outside of campaign season, Debi leads HNTB’s Christmas program, which participates in Operation Breakthrough’s Adopt-A-Family program, and volunteers through her church.
Debi’s advice for fellow ECMs: “Always be willing to try new things. Having a successful campaign is more than the money you raise—it’s about the spirit you show and the enthusiasm you inspire in others.”
Thanks to the dedication and support of ECMs like Debi, United Way can continue its mission of serving the 1 in 3 Kansas Citians who are in need. See how other ECMs are making a difference here.
