Empowering Women in Kansas City: 5 Organizations Making a Difference

March 28, 2025

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we want to highlight five incredible Kansas City organizations that are actively supporting and uplifting women in our community. These agencies provide essential resources and ensure that women have access to the tools they need to thrive.

1. KC Care Health Center

Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, and KC Care Health Center ensures that all women—regardless of income or insurance status—receive the medical care they need. This Impact 100 organization has a mission to promote health and wellness by providing quality care, access, research, and education to the underserved and all people in our community. From reproductive health services to mental health support, KC Care is a vital resource for women in Kansas City.

2. Hold Em Up 4 Care

This Nonprofit Catalyst Grantee focuses on boosting self-esteem and mental health resilience among youth and adults by providing well-fitting clothing, particularly bras, to underserved communities. Founded by Tiffany Price, the organization has donated thousands of bras to women and shelters in the Kansas City area, addressing a critical, yet often overlooked, need. With the UnderWARE Program, Hold Em Up 4 Care offers self-breast exam education along with bra measuring and fitting to improve body awareness and self-confidence.

3. The Help KC

The Help KC, a Nonprofit Catalyst Grantee, is committed to supporting women experiencing housing insecurity and financial hardships. Their mission is to empower women from diverse backgrounds, including those affected by past challenges, by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the real estate market, advance their careers, and access mentorship opportunities. Through a holistic approach that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being—as well as socioeconomic needs—The Help KC provides the tools women need to regain stability and build a foundation for long-term success.

4. Kansas City Women in Technology

Kansas City Women in Technology strives to close the gender gap in the tech industry by providing women and girls with coding workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Signature programs include CoderDojoKC, Coding & Cocktails, and TechTalks, all designed to foster a supportive environment for women to launch and advance tech careers.

5. Altruism Inc

Altruism, Inc. aims to empower communities to thrive equitably by equipping them with information and resources that advance whole-person care. By creating healthier communities, this Nonprofit Catalyst Grantee aims to reduce preventable deaths through targeted programs, advocacy, outreach, and education in a manner that actualizes equity, dignity, and compassion. All services, including doulas, midwifery, mental health support, and diaper support, are free for individuals covered through Medicaid or uninsured.

These five organizations are creating real change for women in Kansas City. Their efforts remind us that when we invest in women, we strengthen our entire community.

Looking to get involved? Support these organizations by volunteering or spreading awareness about their work. Together, we can continue to uplift and empower the women of Kansas City!
