๐ Celebrating Mui Bui: A Shining Volunteer at Don Bosco! ๐
As we celebrate AAPI Month, we want to take a moment to recognize and honor Mui’s invaluable contributions and dedication to helping others. Mui began volunteering with Don Bosco Center after retiring in 2011 as an ESL Science instructor for the Kansas City Public School District. Since then, he has spent at least 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, volunteering his time to empower Vietnamese seniors that receive services from Don Bosco Center.
Mui, originally from Vietnam, was a practicing physician before moving to America in 1993. He was reunited with his brother, Ty, who was one of 125,000 Vietnamese refugees who came to America after the Vietnam War in 1975. Ty was working at Don Bosco Centers as a Refugee Service Coordinator and Director, helping refugees navigate life in America. His work introduced and inspired Muiโs desire to volunteer and help others.
Today, 12 years later, Mui is a prominent volunteer with Don Bosco Center and even has his own office at their senior center. He acts a translator for the 30+ Vietnamese seniors who are currently served at Don Bosco Center. He also assists seniors with paperwork for utility and housing assistance, along with healthcare documents. This week, Mui helped seniors sign up for hearing aid and eye screenings by translating and completing registration forms. He also encourages seniors to participate in the many activities provided by Don Bosco Center, including Tai Chi and Yoga classes.
Thank you to Mui for committing countless hours to help and empower Vietnamese seniors at Don Bosco Center!
