Youth Art Month is a time to celebrate the power of creativity and the young people who bring it to life. Across Kansas City, youth are painting murals, writing poetry, stepping onto stages, composing music, and discovering their voices through art. But access to arts education and enrichment opportunities isn’t equal for every child. For many families, cost, transportation, and access create barriers to creative exploration.
That’s why local organizations play such a critical role. They ensure young people not only experience the arts, but grow through them.

This Youth Arts Month, we’re proud to highlight five organizations helping Kansas City’s young creatives thrive.
Art As Mentorship
Art as Mentorship (AM) empowers young people to write their own success stories. The non-profit organization stewards a comprehensive ecosystem that develops young artists, both personally and professionally, through mentorship, mental health support, creative workforce pipelines, and community care.
AM taps into the frequencies that heal us by connecting musical experiences to mental health and championing arts participation as a health behavior.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City
At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, creativity is woven into a broader commitment to academic success and positive youth development.
From visual arts and digital media to music and performance, Clubs offer safe spaces where young people can explore their interests, discover hidden talents, and build supportive relationships with mentors who believe in their potential.
Heartland Arts
Heartland Arts connects youth to high-quality arts education experiences, often partnering directly with schools to ensure students have access to music, theater, and visual arts programming.
By integrating arts into education, they help students strengthen problem-solving skills, emotional expression, and resilience; tools that serve them for life.
Northeast Community Center
Serving families in one of Kansas City’s most culturally vibrant neighborhoods, Northeast Community Center provides after-school and enrichment programs that incorporate art, music, and creative expression.
Through hands-on activities and community-centered programming, youth build confidence, cultural pride, and skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Creativity becomes a pathway to connection and belonging.
Youth Ambassadors Inc.
Youth Ambassadors Inc. empowers young people through performance arts, leadership development, and community engagement.
Through dance, theater, and public speaking, youth build self-esteem and develop critical life skills like communication, teamwork, and confidence. Their programs prove that when young people are given a stage, they rise to it.
Arts education isn’t just about painting or performing. It strengthens critical thinking, boosts academic achievement, and supports emotional well-being. For many young people, creative spaces are where they feel most seen and heard.
When we invest in youth arts, we invest in future leaders, storytellers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. This Youth Arts Month, let’s celebrate the organizations making sure creativity is accessible to every child in Kansas City.
