United Way of Greater Kansas City is proud to Certified™ by Great Place To Work® for the fourth consecutive year. The prestigious award is based entirely on what current employees say about their experience working at United Way. This year, 94% of employees said it’s a great place to work—54 points higher than the average US company.

Great Place To Work® is the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience, and the leadership behaviors proven to deliver market-leading revenue, employee retention and increased innovation.

“Great Place To Work Certification is a highly coveted achievement that requires consistent and intentional dedication to the overall employee experience,” says Sarah Lewis-Kulin, the Vice President of Global Recognition at Great Place To Work. She emphasizes that Certification is the sole official recognition earned by the real-time feedback of employees regarding their company culture. “By successfully earning this recognition, it is evident that United Way of Greater Kansas City stands out as one of the top companies to work for, providing a great workplace environment for its employees.”

Certification is a two-step process that includes a survey of employees about the organization, quality of work environment, workplace benefits and more. Because employee feedback and independent analysis determine scores, certification helps potential job seekers identify which organizations offer excellent company culture. Results from previous United Way surveys have influenced modifications to company benefits, leave policies, moving to a more accommodating physical office space and a new employee promotional structure.

“At United Way, we are so proud to impact 1 in 3 Kansas Citians each year through our mission. Behind the scenes of that impact is our incredible staff,” said Ann Gaffigan, United Way of Greater Kansas City Chief Operating and Financial Officer. “We are so proud to be named an official Great Place to Work for the fourth time in as many years, and all the credit goes to our team members who are dedicated to supporting our mission and to supporting each other.”

To earn a Great Places To Work Certification, more than half of employees must complete the survey and the average score results must show that approximately 7 out of 10 employees are having a consistently positive experience at work.

The recognition reenforces United Way’s commitment to maximizing employee potential through effective leadership, a robust employee benefits package, strong values, along with a deep foundation of trust with all employees. All those qualities contribute to our team’s innovation and performance, and has created a culture of excellence.

According to Great Place To Work research, job seekers are 4.5 times more likely to find a great boss at a Certified great workplace. Additionally, employees at Certified workplaces are 93% more likely to look forward to coming to work, and are twice as likely to be paid fairly, earn a fair share of the company’s profits and have a fair chance at promotion.
