Geysol C. strives to be a good mother to her two children, and caretaker to her mother who lives with the family. She works long hours cleaning homes and businesses.
Making ends meet is often a struggle, so at times, she’s turned to United Way Impact 100 partner Grandview Assistance Program for support.
“They’ve been so good to help us with food and giving money to help pay the electricity,” Geysol said.
Recently, she got sick and lost hours at work and got a little behind on bills. That’s when Grandview Assistance Program connected her with the United Way debit card program. The initiative was started three years ago to help provide immediate financial assistance as families grappled with high inflation—resulting in big spikes to rent, and prices for food, gas, utilities, medicine and more. This year, a second round of funding has already provided more than $503,000 in assistance, to 542 households.
“It’s very nice to have this help to pay my rent, electricity, and food for my kids,” Geysol shared. “It’s a lot less stressful right now because of the help you’ve given to us.”
English is not Geysol’s first language. But she wanted to share her sincere gratitude for all those who make programs to support the financial security of families like hers, through United Way, possible.
“Muchas gracias para ayudando mi familia. Ustedes nunca sabran cuanto significa esto,” she said.
(Translation: Thank you so much for helping my family. You will never know how much this means.)
