Update on Hurricane Relief Efforts

October 11, 2024

The devastating aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, along with devastating flooding and tornados continues to unfold across the Southeastern United States. Hundreds of people are known to have died during these storms. Millions lost power and property damage is widespread.

President Biden has deployed National Guard soldiers across the region to assist in delivering supplies, food and water to assist in recovery efforts. FEMA is also on the ground providing help.

Many communities are struggling to meet basic needs including food and shelter. United Way has quickly mobilized to bring relief to the affected areas, leveraging deep-rooted community partnerships to deliver critical resources and support. Together, we’re activating ongoing rescue and recovery efforts across these areas, leveraging the power of collective action in the face of disaster.

If you would like to support the ongoing relief efforts, you can pledge to United Way Worldwide, or to state-specific relief funds here.

The American Red Cross is also currently looking for Missouri and Arkansas residents to volunteer to travel this fall to provide support at emergency shelters. Anyone interested in applying must be available to be deployed for two weeks and must finish the required training. Volunteer applications can be accessed here

Stay Tuned: On November 2 at 8 p.m. ET, United Way Worldwide will host the United Way Benefit for Hurricane Relief, a one-hour fundraising special in partnership with Paramount, and televised on CBS and CMT. The event, which includes high-profile artists from across the entertainment industry, will showcase compelling personal stories of the people and communities impacted by the storms. Resources raised will be disbursed to United Ways responding to communities impacted by the hurricanes on an equitable basis and support ongoing efforts to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from disasters through the Disaster Relief Fund.
