United Way C-Suite Women: Ann Gaffigan

March 22, 2024

Ann Gaffigan serves as Chief Operating Officer at United Way of Greater Kansas City, a position she’s held since January 2023.

United Way is proud to have women serving in four of our five C-Suite executive level positions.

Each shared responses to the same four questions during this Women’s History Month.

United Way: Share a person or place that inspires you and why

Ann: Sandra Douglass Morgan, the President of the Las Vegas Raiders. She is the epitome of a woman taking a role in a traditionally male dominated industry and gaining the respect of so many in how she does her job. I got to hear a live interview with her at a conference and have been a big fan ever since.

United Way: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Ann: “You can’t really make a bad decision, just make the best one you can with the information you have, and then make it work for you.”  This was from a friend/mentor when I was considering a career change.

United Way: What’s the most meaningful part of your role at United Way?

Ann: I am so honored to be a part of a team that is so committed to a purpose. Knowing that the decisions we make and the work that we do has such an impact, directly or indirectly, is so motivating. I’ve never loved going to work in this way in previous roles.

United Way: How would you encourage other women aspiring to serve in leadership roles?

Ann: Proactively seek out advice and mentorship, but also understand that no matter what your title is, you can be a leader in your organization. Raise your hand when you see a way that you can make an impact; don’t wonder if you should or not, just do it! So much is accomplished just because someone took a first step.
