September is Hunger Action Month. Did you know that there are over 182,000 people who are food insecure in the Kansas City metro?
The inability to reliably access safe, affordable, and nutritious food can have devastating consequences for individuals and families. The combined challenges of the pandemic and record inflation have left households struggling to secure enough food, while local agencies face limitations in meeting the increased demand.
Thanks to your support, United Way is proud to support almost 40 organizations that are addressing food insecurity in Greater Kansas City including Metro Lutheran Ministry (MLM). The City of Kansas City, MO employees volunteered in their orchards last week, helping harvest apples for local food pantries. In partnership with The Giving Grove and Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG), MLM’s Urban Orchard and Community Gardens are a true community collaboration that makes access to fresh produce in Kansas City more accessible!
