Many people in our community are feeling the impact of inflation, especially when it comes to grocery shopping. Last year, a pound of butter cost $3.18 compared to the current national average of $3.88. To many of us, these increases don’t effect our daily lives, but a 13.5% increase in grocery bills is a burden for a lot of families. Our partner agencies, such as Impact 100 organizations Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and Jewish Family Services, are seeing an uptick in families needing food assistance. Last year, United Way of Greater City helped 216,432 households receive emergency food, shelter, clothing and other assistance in our community.
